Whether you’re preparing for marriage, feeling disconnected from your partner, or simply wanting to strengthen an already solid relationship, couples counseling can provide a space to better understand one another and create a stronger foundation for the future.
Many couples seek counseling only when a relationship is in crisis. However, therapy can also be a proactive investment in your relationship, helping you improve communication, deepen connection, navigate conflict more effectively, and strengthen emotional intimacy.
Often, couples are not arguing about what they appear to be arguing about. While conflict may seem to center around finances, household responsibilities, intimacy, parenting, or communication, there are often deeper emotional needs, attachment patterns, fears, and longings for connection underneath the surface.
Understanding what is really happening beneath the surface is often the catalyst for change.
Together, we’ll explore what’s working in your relationship, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop new ways of creating connection, trust, and emotional safety.
Couples Often Seek Counseling To:
• Improve communication and conflict resolution
• Rebuild trust and emotional safety
• Better understand recurring relationship patterns
• Strengthen friendship, intimacy, and connection
• Navigate life stressors as a team
• Prepare for marriage or long-term commitment
• Understand attachment styles and emotional needs
• Create a healthier and more secure partnership
I often think of a relationship like a house. When the foundation is strong, the structure can better withstand life’s challenges. When cracks begin to appear, it doesn’t necessarily mean the house needs to be abandoned. Instead, it may be time to repair, strengthen, or renovate parts of the foundation.
Whether you’re preparing for marriage, rebuilding after a difficult season, or simply wanting to strengthen an already healthy relationship, we will work together to better understand your relationship patterns, clarify your goals, and create a roadmap for the relationship you want to build.
My Approach
I integrate evidence-based approaches in my work with couples, including Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and attachment-based approaches.
Together, we’ll work to identify the cycles that keep you feeling stuck, understand the deeper emotions and needs underneath conflict, and create new ways of responding to one another that foster connection, trust, and emotional safety.
My goal is not simply to help couples stop arguing. Rather, it is to help partners better understand themselves and one another while creating a relationship that feels more secure, connected, and fulfilling.
Relationship Assessments
In addition to couples counseling, I offer both the Prepare/Enrich Assessment and the Gottman Relationship Checkup.
Prepare/Enrich is a research-based assessment commonly used with engaged and newly married couples. It helps identify relationship strengths, growth areas, and topics that may benefit from discussion before marriage. It can also be used with established couples who would like to strengthen their relationship.
The Gottman Relationship Checkup is a comprehensive relationship assessment based on decades of research. It evaluates important aspects of a relationship, including friendship, communication, conflict management, trust, intimacy, and shared meaning.
These assessments provide valuable insight into your relationship dynamics and help create a personalized roadmap for our work together. They can be particularly helpful for couples seeking a relationship tune-up, preparing for marriage, or wanting a deeper understanding of their relationship.
